Government doctors were assured by health minister C Laxma Reddy on Thursday that all their demands would be met over the next three months. A letter of assurance was also handed over to the Telangana Government Doctors Association, after an intensive round of negotiations all through the day.
Following the assurance, the doctors decided to call off the strike from Friday. The doctors protested for an hour daily for the last 11 days and had threatened to boycott outpatient duties from May 16 and boycott all services from June 2, if their demands were not met.
Among the key demands of the doctors are implementation of University
Grants Commission (UGC) pay scale and allowances as per GO 14 for university teachers and time-bound promotions.Also repatriation of the Telangana and Andhra doctors to their respective states, and appointment of government doctors to various administrative positions like director of medical education (DME), superintendents of hospitals, etc.
The association also demanded that directors to Osmania, Gandhi and district hospitals should be made through promotions, all promotions and transfers to be done through counselling and that the Telangana State Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMIDC) be abolished.
