Loksatta founder Dr Jayaprakash Narayan today said the Panama papers gave the best opportunity to India to curb black money.

“This is the best chance. Global climate is helpful. But we need systemic reforms to curb more money outflows. India was losing $b70 a year, more than Rs 1000 crore a day,” Dr JP stated in a statement today. He explained the four drivers of black money and the much needed practical reforms.

style="font-size:13pt;color:black">Four drivers of black money and their solutions are: 1. To curb vote buying -- Go for direct election of Chief Minister. 2. Tax corruption -- Forcibly retire 100 most corrupt officials. 3. To tackle general corruption -- Have strong Lokpal, Lokayuktas and local ombudsmen with effective powers. 4. Real estate --- Reduce Stamp Duty and cap gains.

“Narendra Modi and his team have integrity, real power and passion. Now is the time for them to usher in bold reforms,” said Dr JP. He greeted the Telugu speaking people all over the world on the occasion of Ugadi (Telugu New Year) and appealed them to join the cause of reforms with true national spirit.
