A total 1,154 pilgrims will make the trip to Mecca in Saudi Arabia after the draw of lots for Haj applications, known as Qurrah, was conducted at Chowmahalla Palace on Tuesday.
The pilgrims were selected through computerised draw of lots for free accommodation at Nizam Rubath, a pilgrim house in Mecca.Speaking at the Qurrah, executive officer of Telangana Haj Committee SA Shukoor said that these 1,154 people had been selected out of 6,647 pilgrims.
Senior officials claimed that Telangana stood first in offering the best services to Haj pilgrims in the
country.
Deputy chief minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that a proposal to ferry Haj pilgrims will also take off soon. “All steps are being taken to ensure that Haj pilgrims travel safely and ferrying them via sea route to Jeddah will also begin within a couple of years. This is to help the pilgrims as travelling by ship is a cheaper mode of transport,” Mahmood Ali said.
Member of Wakf Committee MA Faiz Khan said he had recently visited Saudi Arabia and initiated the efforts to get accommodation in Rubath buildings.
