Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has said vehicular movement would not be permitted on the newly inaugurated Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge on weekends in view of public safety. Visitors would however be allowed on foot.

Speaking at a coordination meeting with representatives of various departments and wings including the GHMC, Irrigation, Fire and Traffic here on Thursday, Sajjanar said a large number of people were visiting the cable bridge every day. Apart from crowd management issues, there could also be safety issues, he said, asking officers concerned to take necessary precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident.
Vehicular movement would be closed on the bridge on weekends, from Friday 10 pm to Monday 6 am.

Officials said multiple parking areas were being identified on both sides of the bridge by the Cyberabad

Traffic Police and Hyderabad Traffic Police in coordination with the GHMC.

As the visitors are coming majorly on two sides of the bridge (ITC Kohinoor side and Road No 45 side), multiple parking areas were identified on both sides in coordination with GHMC and TSIIC.

Installation of signage, deploying security guards, setting up a police outpost, closure of the D-Mart U-turn, installation of speed breakers, installation of surveillance cameras and public address system and sliding gates at the entry and exit of the bridge too were discussed.

Among others, the coordination meeting was attended by GHMC zonal commissioner, Ravi Kiran and DCP Traffic SM Vijay Kumar apart from CH Nagaraju of Irrigation Department, M. Sandesh Kumar, District Fire Officer, EV&DM, and others.
