Two major buildings in the city — Charminar and Raj Bhavan will shut off electricity for an hour on Saturday to observe Earth Hour. Amid rising temperature and pollution level, the city has joined the initiative by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to switch off power supply for one hour at public and government places to spread the message about power conservation.

Garden and Lumbini Park will also switch off lights at 8.30pm for an hour. “The motive behind earth hour is to make people aware about switching off non-essential lights, but this year our message is “connect to earth” to spread awareness about giving up garbage-causing materials like single-use plastics, papers and giving resources back to earth,” said Farida Tampal, state director of WWF, Hyderabad.
