The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the biennial elections to the Legislative Council of Telangana by the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) respectively to fill the seats of members retiring on March 29. The polling is set for March 20 and the results will be declared on the same day in the evening.

In all, the term of five MLCs under MLA quota, including Mohd Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathod, Seri Subhash Reddy, Yegge Mallesham and Mirza Riyazul Hassan Effendi, is due to expire on March 29. The ECI also released



a similar schedule to conduct the election for five MLC seats under MLAs quota in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, on the same dates.

As per the election schedule, notification for the election will be issued on March 3, while nominations must be submitted between March 3 and 10. The scrutiny of nominations will be carried out on March 11, and the last date for withdrawals is March 13. On March 20, polling will be held from 9 am to 4 pm and votes will be counted at 5 pm on the same day. The ECI will complete the election procedure before March 24.
