ECIL had received orders of EVMs worth Rs.1,400 crore, taking its total turnover to Rs.2,650 crore in 2018-19 as all EVMs have to be replaced for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls for compatibility with VVPATs.
Sources in ECIL said that the production was completed based on the orders. “EVMs and VVPATs have already been dispatched to all states. Some states are asking
for replacements of damaged machines, while there is a shortage in certain areas due to the increased number of polling stations or due to election petitions,” said ECIL sources. Engineers of ECIL and BEL are being deployed in all states for assisting the election commission staff and state government polling staff in operating and maintenance.
