Telangana State will be the first customer if startups come up with products and services that are relevant to the Government. While this applies to all startups, those led by women stand to get additional benefits under the TS-iPASS, the State’s industrial policy, said IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.
He was speaking at the launch of WING, an initiative by Startup India and led by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, at WeHub. The capacity development programme aims to train about 500 women entrepreneurs.
“Effort should be to support women entrepreneurs beyond the training module,” he said. While there are many success stories, women have to fight many stereotypes created by men. These mindsets in the process have created hurdles for women in the form of
lower or restricted access to infra, knowledge base, funding channels and other factors.
Earlier, he interacted with select entrepreneurs at the We Hub. After seeing their technical presentations, the Minister said that some of the ideas hold a promise to solve societal problems and to scale up,” he said.
We Hub, which is now two years, was a result of the deliberations held during Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in Hyderabad in November 2017, he said.
IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said women entrepreneurship for long time did not go beyond making papads, tailoring and embroidery. “The society mindset has to change from think in this unfortunate manner. Given a chance, they will prove successful in multiple domains,” he said.
