EFLU hosts three-day subtitling workshop

The Department of Translation Studies, EFLU, recently organized a comprehensive three-day workshop on subtitling. The workshop aimed at equipping participants with essential subtitling skills, addressing the challenges of translating cultural nuances and maintaining linguistic accuracy in today’s multimedia landscape.

EFLU Vice Chancellor in-charge Prof. Lakshmi Haribandi highlighted the critical role of subtitling in education, entertainment, and global accessibility, commending the organizers for fostering professional development.

Workshop coordinator Dr. Kokila Kalekar emphasized the importance of subtitling in bridging language barriers



and promoting inclusive communication. Around 40 participants, including students, researchers, teachers, and media professionals, attended the workshop, demonstrating great enthusiasm for learning and skill enhancement.

The valedictory event featured a session titled ‘Translation, an Art Worth Protecting: Moral and Material Rights for Indigenous Languages’ by Sachin Ketkar, Professor of English, Department of English, Maharaja Sayajirao University. He discussed the cultural and historical context of translating into English, the role of the translator as an artist in Indian English, and the importance of translation in preserving indigenous languages.
