Eid-ul-Adha prayers will not be held at the Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Eid-ul- Adha (Bakrid) prayers will not be held at the historic Mecca Masjid in view of the Covid-19 pandemic on August 1.

Maulana Hafeez Mohd Rizwan Qureshi, khateem, Mecca Masjid said the general public is not being allowed in the Mecca Masjid even after the relaxation of the lockdown to prevent spread of Covid-19.

 

“Hundreds of people visit the Mecca Masjid during regular prayers and the number swell on important days and festivals. In view of Covid-19 we are not allowing the namazis from outside to come and attend prayers. Only five persons are doing namaz in



the mosque on all days,” he said.

The Maulana said that on Eid-ul- Adha, the mosque will not be opened for the public. “I appeal to the people to visit mosques in their neighbourhoods and attend the prayers following guidelines like social distancing and wearing mask. Stay at your homes after prayers,” he urged.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Wakf Board chairman Mohd Saleem said that the board is yet to decide on allowing Eid prayer congregations at the Eidgahs across the State. “We will make an announcement on Sunday after a meeting with the religious scholars and the board members,” he said.
