A 67-year-old man from the city, who was searching for the customer care number of a popular brand to get his air-conditioner repaired, ended up being scammed by cyber fraudsters and lost Rs 1.9 lakh.

In March first week, the complainant, who is a retired private employee, searched for the customer care number to get the air-conditioner at his house repaired. He found a contact number and reached out.

According to the Cybercrime police, the person on the other end who was a cyber-fraudster



informed the victim that he would send a message with a link and asked him to fill in his details.

“The unsuspecting complainant who was in urgent need of the repair services, clicked on the link and was then asked to pay Rs.10 initially to confirm his bank account. However, the victim became suspicious and disconnected the call,” said a cybercrime official.

The next day, when the complainant checked his bank account, he discovered that an amount of Rs 1.9 lakh was debited from his account.
