Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and its spokesperson, Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani told that the attempts of Govt. of India to enact a law banning triple talaq are interference in Islamic Shariat. It is a religious issue. When divorce is pronounced, the woman becomes illegal for the husband. Enactment on Triple Talaq makes a provision for the divorced women to live with their former husbands. It is an act which is sinful and equivalent to adultery.
He further told that according to Article 25 of Constitution of India, every citizen is free to profess his religion. Those who framed the Constitution kept it under the
fundamental rights. The proposed step which Govt. of India intends to take is a conspiracy to deprive Muslims of their fundament rights.
No doubt, pronouncing triple talaq at a time is an unpleasant act in the light of Islamic Shariat and it is its misuse but the enactment to cancel Triple Talaq is inappropriate.
Muslim Personal Law Board is also making an attempt to stop its misuse. It is campaigning throughout India to create awareness for not using Triple Talaq provision. If Govt. of India is sincere, it should consult the Board and make an attempt to resolve the issues of the divorced women.
