EX Speaker Suresh Reddy joins TRS party

Sat 08 Sep 2018, 10:39:17
The Congress in Telangana received a big jolt on Friday as its senior leader and former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

He made this announcement soon after municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao called on him at his residence and extended an invitation on behalf of KCR to join the party.

He said the fact that he joined TRS after list of candidates has been announced shows that he was not hankering after power. “I would like to be the bridge between government and party and support the CM who has only progress and development of

Telangana on his mind. I feel the ‘car’ should not be derailed at this juncture,” he said. Car is election symbol of TRS.

Suresh will formally join TRS at Telangana Bhavan on September 12 in presence of KCR. Explaining the reasons behind his moves to jump the ship, Suresh said he was involved in the struggle for a separate Telangana state. “When I was the speaker, I had a close knowledge of each political party. I have now seen how CM KCR is taking the state forward with many schemes and plans,” he said.

In 2014 polls, Suresh as Congress candidate had lost Armoor seat to TRS candidate A Jeevan Reddy. Suresh, however, was elected in 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004 elections. KTR said, “He will get a befitting position.”
