The novel house-to-house fever surveys and special fever outpatient services at all government healthcare facilities in Telangana, which completed one week on Friday, have strengthened efforts to ensure patients with Covid symptoms get timely appropriate care and treatment during the Omicron driven third wave, senior health officials here on Friday said.

Launched last Friday, the field level workers of health and other government departments have so far visited over 77 lakh households and in the process have identified a total of 2,71,756 individuals with Covid symptoms, who were immediately given treatment, handed over special medical kits and advised to remain in isolation.

In the fever outpatient services that are being simultaneously held across Telangana, so far authorities have conducted over 5 lakh consultations and have provided treatment to over 75,000 individuals who were identified with Covid-19 symptoms.

Without waiting for RT-PCR or rapid antigen tests to confirm Covid-19 status, the fever and door-to-door surveys have enabled authorities to quickly identify people with symptoms,

provide them with special treatment kits and isolate them in their homes.

Such a move also helps in identifying a large number of people suffering from non-Covid fevers and similar minor illnesses and enables in providing appropriate timely treatment, senior public health officials said.

A total of 21,150 field level workers of the state health department, primarily comprising Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and Auxiliary Nursing Midwives (ANMs), are spearheading the house-to-house fever surveys, in addition to conducting regular follow-ups to track the health condition of people with symptoms and to assess whether such individuals have to be admitted to a higher healthcare centre.

To ensure the fever OPs and house-to-house fever surveys are conducted successfully, recently Health Minister, Harish Rao, MA&UD, Minister, K T Rama Rao and Minister for Panchayat Raj, Errabelli Dayakar Rao had held a coordination meeting to ensure officials and field level workers from all the three departments were involved in the initiative.
