The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday directed Collectors and District Election authorities to set up polling stations and publish its final list on January 13 ahead of the municipal polls.
Elections to Urban Local Bodies (municipalities and municipal corporations) in Telangana will be held on January 22. “The final list of polling stations of the municipalities and municipal corporations shall be prepared and published as per the schedule based on ward-wise final electoral rolls published on January 4 by adopting Assembly electoral rolls, with reference to January 1 as the qualifying date,” an SEC circular read.
The schedule stipulates that the preparation of draft list of polling stations will be done on January 4, which will be published on January 5. Claims, objections and suggestions will be taken up on January 8 till 5 pm.
The Election Commission will
hold a meeting with representatives of political parties on January 9, and Municipal Commissioners will submit the final list of polling stations to the Collector and concerned district election authority on the same day. The final list will be published on January 13.
The circular further states that the Commissioners of municipalities and municipal corporations should be entrusted with identifying polling stations, preparing a list of polling stations, and publishing the draft and final list of polling stations. Collectors were directed to obtain the list of polling stations from Municipal Commissioners. Returning officers were instructed to physically inspect the buildings proposed for polling. Polling station-wise electoral rolls, without photographs, will be published on the web portals of municipalities, municipal corporations and the SEC on January 13.
