A fire broke out at Nagarjuna Sagar hydel power plant in the early hours on Monday. It is learned that fire erupted from the transformer during the power generation. No casualties were reported as the staff escaped from the area on noticing the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
Earlier in August, nine people were dead after being caught in the fire at
Srisailam power plant in Nagarkurnool. A short-circuit in an electrical panel of one of the six units of the hydel power station resulted in the fire accident which spread through other units. Nine people including five engineers and two technicians lost their lives. During the mishap, eight other employees during the night shift escaped as they were on the top floor of the underground power plant.
