The state fire department has started training its personnel in aquatic search and rescue programmes.
Training on using inflatable boats and other aspects was provided to 168 persons by four district fire officers (DFOs) and eleven assistant DFOs.
These trained teams
will be deployed at strategic locations in low-lying areas to rescue people in case of floods. "Apart from attending fire calls, these teams will also respond to rescue calls and any other emergency during the monsoon season," officials from the fire department said.
