Five gates of Musi Project were lifted on Tuesday morning by upto 3 three feet at Bopparam village of Kethepally mandal in the district in a view of possible heavy inflow to hit the project by Tuesday evening as upper areas including Hyderabad city witnessed heavy rains on Monday.

The officials of Irrigation Department decided to lift the gates of Musi project in view of increased inflow of 3,500 cusecs. While the outflow from the project was 10,000 cusecs. Present water level in the project was 643.80 feet as against full level of 645 feet.

“The flood from upper areas, which witnessed heavy down pour, was likely to reach Musi project by 4 pm due to which the inflow may also cross 50,000 cusecs”, said Assistant Engineer



of Musi project, Mamatha.Keeping in mind the upcoming situation, 5 out of 12 crust gates were lifted upto 3 feet. There are 20 gates including 12 crust gates and eight regulatory gates at the Musi Project.

The Assistant Engineer informed that they had alerted the villages in the down stream areas before releasing the water and cautioned not to go near the Musi flowing area.

The flow of Musi, the tributary of river Krishna, has also increased tremendously at Bhudhan Pochampally and Valigonda area. Musi was also overflowing on to Battugudem-Peddadevulapally bridge and Rudravelly-Jooluru bridge that cuts the road linkage to several villages in Bibinagar mandal in Yadadri-Bhongir mandal.
