Five train passengers who were on a different track were run over by Konark express near Batuva village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday early morning.

Report said the victims got off their Secunderabad – Guwahati Express when the train halted due to a technical snag. It is believed that the passengers from the general bogie got off the train and were waiting on the adjacent track when Konark express was passing by.

Several others were also injured in the incident.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his shock over the incident and asked the Srikakulam



collector to rush to the spot and extend all possible help to the injured and to the family members of the deceased.

There were unconfirmed reports that some passengers pulled the chain to get off the train and were crossing the track when the Konark express ran them over. Authorities have rushed to the spot.

The Andhra Pradesh Govt has announced ex-gratia of 2 lakh each to the deceased person. Srikakulam local RDO who rushed to the spot informed CMO that two of the deceased were identified as belonging to Assam and 3 were unidentified and one person who was injured was rushed to hospital in Srikakulam and now he’s being rushed to Vizag.
