Warangal: Seven persons including five students and two staff members of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the institute management to suspend offline (in person) classes on the campus.
“We have decided to suspend the offline classes till Jan 16, and we will take a call on resuming the classes thereafter. We will, however, continue with online classes,” an official said.
He said they had called PhD scholars, M Tech and BTech third year students totalling around 1,000 for offline classes, while others are
still continuing with online classes. The seven tested positive during a special drive held on the campus on Thursday. This forced the management to continue only with the online classes from Friday. “Now, the staff need not visit the campus. They can take online classes from home,” he added.
However, the District Medical and Health Officials have, so far, not issued any statement about the variant of the Covid-19 that infected the students of the NITW. “We are not aware whether they were infected with Omicron or other variant, the DM&HO has to give the details,” the official added.
