In view of the upcoming mango season, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation food safety officials conducted a special drive in Moazzam Jahi Market on Wednesday to check whether fruit sellers were using banned carbide for ripening fruits.

The GHMC food safety officers, lab technicians, assistant food controller and police task force team participated in this special drive as part of which several fruit merchant premises were



inspected.

After the inspections, the fruit traders in MJ Market were made aware that the use of carbide should be completely prohibited and informed that the instructions of Telangana Food Safety Commissioner should be followed for ripening the fruits, and only approved ingredients should be used.

They were made aware that the methods of ripening the fruits should be followed as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
