Jagtial: Former Metpalli MLA Komireddi Jyothi Devi passed away on Friday night due to ill health. Jyothi Devi, who was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru due to health issues a week ago, breathed her last while undergoing treatment. She was 70.

The wife of senior Congress leader and former legislator Komireddi Ramulu, Jyothi Devi entered politics with encouragement from Ramulu and was elected as MPTC from Venkatraopet of Metpalli mandal in



1994

In 1998, the Metpalli MLA seat fell as the sitting legislator Ch Vidhyasagar Rao was elected as MP. She contested in the by-election and won the seat by defeating BJP candidate Venkatramana Reddy. She was legislator for 17 months.

Being a leader of All India Mahila MLAs’ Association, she strove hard for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.  Jyothi and Ramulu had three sons.
