The TS Narcotics Bureau (TS NAB) and Bolaram police arrested four Karnataka-based persons who were smuggling one tonne of ganja in a van and a car, all worth Rs 3.5 crore. They had procured ganja from the AP-Odisha border for sale in Karnataka and Maharashtra, said bureau SP D. Sunitha Reddy.
She identified the accused as Sakaram Rathod, Ahmed Khan, Digambar Ramu Pawar and Ajay Ramavtar Chaurasiya. Rathod, who has five ganja smuggling cases,
used to have a panipuri kiosk. He left it to join a sugar factory and then landed in the ganja smuggling business. He then roped in the others with the help of his cousin Jaidev Chouhan, who is absconding.
Police said he had paid Rs8 lakh advance to ganja supplier Sanyasi Rao in Odisha. Rathod procured 100 empty crates to hide ganja packets. They were caught during a check in Bolaram.
