Congress MLCs MS Prabhakar Rao, Damodar Reddy, Akula Lalitha and T Santosh Kumar on Friday, met Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud and submitted a petition seeking for merger of the Congress Legislative Party in TRS Legislative Party in the Council. Once approved by the Council Chairman, the strength of Congress Legislative Party in the Council will come down to two from the existing six MLCs.
As the term of the remaining two MLCs Mohd Ali Shabbir and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy is scheduled to end in March next year, Congress party is likely to be wiped out from the Legislative Council. The Council Chairman K Swamy Goud is likely to take the decision soon after considering the rule position of the
Council.
Speaking to media persons after meeting the Council Chairman, the legislators said they form two-thirds of the CLP strength in the Council, and have sought the merger of CLP in TRSLP as per the Constitution. They decided to join TRS as the Congress was encouraging group politics by giving MLA tickets to those who worked against the party activists, which led to its disastrous defeat in the elections.
The MLC stated that people gave a clear mandate to Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrashekhar Rao as he had been working for their welfare and development. They said though they have been keeping away from Congress activities for the last a few months, they have now formally sought merger of CLP in TRSLP.
