Four persons, including three international travelers, who arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad recently from non at-risk countries, and one close contact, have tested positive for the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, health officials said here on Tuesday.
With this, the total number of Omicron variant Covid-19 positive infections in Telangana has reached 24. Of these, 19 cases were international travelers who arrived at RGIA, Hyderabad from non at-risk countries, 4 travelers were from at-risk countries and one was a close contact of a
passenger who had tested positive for Omicron.
On Tuesday, a total of 726 international travelers arrived at RGIA, out of which 4 tested positive for Covid-19. The blood samples of the four Covid positive travelers have been sent for full genome sequencing. At present, genome sequencing results of a total of 13 samples are awaited.
Since the start of the screening of the international travelers at RGIA, a total of 9122 passengers underwent RT-PCR tests out of which 59 have tested Covid positive and 24 have tested positive for Omicron variant..
