A vegetable vendor from Kondapur was duped of Rs 18.68 lakh, which comprised the family’s savings, by cyber fraudsters. The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was lured with the promise of payments for performing certain tasks online, the Cyberabad cybercrime police said.

Police said the victim received a Whatsapp message from one ‘Navya,’ who was ostensibly looking for people to help them increase their visibility online. Navya

invited the vendor to take up a part-time job.

When she agreed, the victim was paid for the first three tasks. Later, the cyber fraudsters began asking her for various fees. She was then told that she had made a mistake and was made to pay for it. She was shown a sum as her earnings and was asked for a fee to encash it. When the money was not forthcoming, she went to the police.
