The price of petrol is just a few paise away from the Rs.100 mark, with the latest fuel price hike pegging it at Rs.98.95 per litre in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The current price of diesel in the capital city is Rs.93.90 per litre.
Incidentally, the price of premium petrol, the fuel with additives that is sold under different names by various petroleum companies, has crossed 100 in the city and was Rs.102.52 per litre on Tuesday, while that of premium diesel was Rs.97.33 per litre.
According to G Vinay Kumar, former general
secretary, Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association, there was actually no reason why the fuel prices should be going up now. But ever since the dynamic pricing system began and the government gave up control, oil companies were deciding matters, he said.
“The prices of regular petrol could cross Rs.100 a litre this week itself,” he added.
From May 1, the fuel price hikes have been sharp, with that of petrol going up from Rs.93.83 by Rs.5.12 and that of diesel, from Rs.87.89 by Rs.6.01.
