State health officials in association with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Monday launched works related to converting the Sports Village building at Gachibowli stadium into a 50-bed quarantine facility for suspected Covid-19 patients.
The Sports Village at Gachibowli stadium comprises of 468 rooms along with a basement and a cellar, which has remained unoccupied after the National Games of 2002. The Health Department has now taken the entire building under its control and has sought GHMC’s help to construct a quarantine facility.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao who along with Health Minister Etela Rajender reviewed the works at Gachibowli stadium,
directed officials to complete the entire project within two days. The health officials have evinced confidence that they would be able to meet the deadline and provide quarantine facilities to passengers arriving to Hyderabad from China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Germany and Spain.
Senior health officials along with GHMC officials from Serlingampally circle 11 also visited the Gachibowli stadium to oversee the works related to the quarantine facility. Minister Rajender, who interacted with senior health officials on Monday, evinced confidence that the Sports Village would be converted into a quarantine facility in another two to three days.
