A 20-bedded dialysis centre was inaugurated at Gandhi Hospital on Thursday. In the last few months, the authorities have started similar dialysis centres in Malakpet, Vanasthalipuram, Sircilla, Vanaparti, Gadwal, Siddipet and Sangareddy districts.
The authorities planned to set up close to 40 dialysis centres, which will have 268 dialysis machines and will provide treatment to 2,100 kidney ailment patients every year. The health authorities will be providing close to 25,000 dialysis sessions free of cost to the kidney patients every year.
Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy, who inaugurated
the dialysis centre at Gandhi Hospital, said that in a month or two, all the planned 40 dialysis centres will be thrown open in the State. The dialysis centres will go a long way in providing much needed support to chronic kidney patients, who otherwise have to incur expenses from their pocket at private hospitals.
“When it comes to organ transplant, poor families are struggling a lot because they can’t afford expensive transplant surgeries at private hospitals. At Gandhi Hospital, we want to provide all top organ transplant facilities free of cost to patients,” said Dr. Laxma Reddy.
