The 10-day long Ganesh festivities came to an end on Friday. Devotees are bidding farewell to Lord Ganesha and immerse the idols in about 30 lakes and over 25 more additional tiny artificial ponds in and around Hyderabad.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has installed about 300 cranes of various capacities at these lakes for immersion. The 50 feet high Pancha Mukha Maha Ganapathi idol which was made completely with clay has been taken out in Shobha Yatra to Hussain Sagar.
Thousands of devotees are participating in the annual procession while chanting slogans -from Balapur to Hussain Sagar, about 22
kilometers.
Hundreds of trucks carrying Ganesh idols in various hues and sizes are heading towards Hussain Sagar. The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the organisers of the procession, set up special platforms at Charminar and Moazzam Jahi Market to welcome lord Ganesh. Police were keeping a close watch on the procession from the command and control centre linked with CCTV cameras installed along the procession route.
The mammoth procession has brought the entire city to a stand-still. Police have imposed traffic restrictions till today morning. Liquor shops and bars will remain closed in the limits of all three police commissionerates.
