The annual Ganesh idols immersion procession passed off peacefully as a low key affair in the city on Tuesday. The usual buzz and jubilation surrounding the immersion procession was missing but the spirit of Hyderbadis remained high in bidding adieu to the Lord.
The tall and huge idols were replaced with small but beautifully decorated idols and vehicles. Though there were no trucks and other heavy vehicles, many youth organisations and households decked up their personal vehicles and auto trolleys and took out the immersion procession from different areas. Young revellers were seen dancing in front of the vehicles sans any drummers and other usual
bands.
The immersion procession of idols, especially the Balapur Ganesh idol commenced around 11 am and headed to Hussain Sagar lake and the immersion of popular Khairtabad Ganesh idol was completed by 5.30 pm at the lake. Majority of the idols were immersed from Tank Bund immersion point and traffic was permitted only from Hyderabad end towards Secunderabad end on two lanes, while vehicles carrying Ganesh idols were on the other two lanes towards the lake.
Police department had deployed nearly 15,000 personnel to monitor the immersion proceedings. Authorities were expecting immersion of about 40,000 idols till late on Tuesday night.
