The GHMC officials appointed 640 Swachh Dooths in 1,088 identified areas to sensitise the residents over segregation of waste. It may be recalled that the government has distributed a total of 44 lakh dustbins and two different-coloured bins to the residents of GHMC.
Each Swachh Dooth would be covering 500 residents. GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore has directed the officials to make use of women self-help groups to create awareness among housewives under GHMC limits. Swachh Bharat mission representatives enquire the housewives about using separate dustbins for wet and dry waste as part of Swachh Survekshan Survey 2019. It is estimated that per day a kg of waste is produced from a house. Swachh Dooths will sensitise housewives about using wet waste to produce fertilizers and dry
wet for power generation. The GHMC has taken a novel initiative to produce compost in the apartments. The GHMC directed the hotels, function halls and others which produce waste more than 50 kgs to set up on site compost units within deadline.
GHMC has come up with an innovative idea of setting up of mike and speaker system to 2,500 Swachh Autos to create awareness among residents over segregating waste and cleaning surroundings. According to reports, 5,280 metric tonnes of waste is being generated in Greater Hyderabad limits daily of which 2,510 mt is wet waste and 1,952 mt dry waste. Transfer station is where waste gets shifted to tippers from autos. The government has decided to establish 30 stations in the city, 20 are existing at present.
