GHMC approves Rs.6,076 cr budget for 2018-19

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) modified annual budget of Rs 6076.86 crore for the financial year 2018-19 was approved by the corporation in a special meeting on Monday.

Initially, the budget outlay for GHMC was finalised at Rs 13,150 crore, including the budget for construction of double bedroom houses, road works and River Musi developmental works.

However, the State Government established three exclusive corporations, including Musi Riverfront Corporation, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation and Housing Corporation.

The works assigned by these corporations will be executed by the GHMC. The State government will make necessary budget allocation and these corporations will release the funds to GHMC for the works executed by the corporation.

Accordingly, the municipal corporation budget was prepared in two parts – one for GHMC and the other for three other corporations. While, GHMC budget is finalised at Rs 6076.86 crore, the other three corporations budget is approved at Rs 7073.14 crore, said GHMC Commissioner B

On the probable additional burden on the municipal corporation for executing the works of three corporations, he said there would not be any additional burden.Save for housing corporation works, which would be taken up by the municipal corporation, works related to other two corporations would be done by the respective staff, he said.

The staff required for Housing Corporation would be recruited by the municipal corporation on outsourcing basis. Already, 100 engineers have been recruited through National Academy of Construction. For other two corporations, the staff would be recruited by the respective managements, he added.

Meanwhile, cutting across party lines, all the corporators wanted the GHMC to allocate Rs 2 crore towards ward development funds. They also demanded for their salary hike.

Responding to the plea, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said the issue was taken up with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and would be addressed at the earliest.
