The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) collected a whopping Rs 363.19 crore as property tax under the Early Bird scheme, which offers five per cent rebate on the tax to building owners.
The early bird scheme is offered from April 1 to 30. Compared to last year collections of Rs 213 crore, GHMC collections increased by nearly Rs 150 crore this year under the scheme.
To facilitate payment on the last day i.e, Sunday, the civic body operated all the citizen service centres, Mee Seva and e-Seva centres. Authorities said of the 14.30 lakh
properties, 3.30 lakh properties come under the exemption of below Rs 1,200 property tax.
This year, already over 5 lakh building owners paid their property tax making best use of the offer. Last year, only 3 lakh building owners had paid the tax under the scheme. Of the 5 lakh building owners, nearly 40 per cent paid their taxes online, authorities informed.
Among all the circles, Khairthabad 10 B circle topped the chart with Rs 47.70 crore collections, followed by Serilingampally circle, which managed to collect Rs 31 crore.
