The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has so far (this financial year) collected nearly Rs 39 crore through trade licence fee as against the Rs 28.51 crore collected during last year. With over a month left for the closure of the current financial year, the civic body authorities expect the collection to go up.
The GHMC this year has focussed on improving trade licence fee collections and addressed issues that affected the collections during the earlier years. Accordingly, licence fee evaders were identified and efforts were made to collect the fee amounts from them.
Among all, empowering medical officers, licence officers,
veterinary officers to collect the trade licence fee, helped the municipal corporation increase its collections. On the licence enrolment too, the municipal corporation fared as the numbers increased considerably. Compared to 42,836 trade licence enrolment last year, the number increased to 70,597.
Buoyed with the good performance, the GHMC has set itself a target of Rs 50 crore collection before the end of the current financial year.As per the commercial tax department records, over 1.10 lakh owners obtained trade licence in the city. Of these, nearly 25,000 trade licence do not come under GHMC purview and a few have shut their operations.
