The GHMC has extended interest free loans to the tune of Rs 273 crore to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the city for 2016-17. The amount is nearly Rs 20 crore higher than the set target.
The civic body had set a target of Rs 248 crore to be extended to 11,624 SHGs during the financial year. However, the municipal corporation extended Rs 273 crore interest free loans to 8,824 SHGs.
In GHMC limits, there are 42,925 SHGs and over 5 lakh women are enrolled as members in these groups. Each group has an enrollment of 10 to 12 members.GHMC extends interest free loans to these groups as
a means to help them set up different small scale projects, works and aid in their social and financial empowerment.
Among the 30 circles in GHMC, Qutbullapur circle obtained the highest amount of bank linkage of Rs 40.67 crore to 935 SHGs. Secunderabad circle managed to obtain Rs 17.82 crore for 809 SHGs as against the targeted Rs 8.45 crore to 472 SHGs.
In the Slum Level Federations, Hyderabad Markandiya SLF Charminar 4C circle received the highest amount of Rs 1.80 crore followed by Indira Nagar SLF in Kapra, which received Rs 1.60 crore, said a press release.
