GHMC inspected 18 hotels on Thursday and fined eight of them for preserving stale food, using unstamped meat and maintaining the hotel in unhygienic conditions.
Hotel Sitara Grand in Banjara Hills was imposed with a fine of `10,000, Spice 6 in Banjara Hills was penalised with `20,000 for maintaining the kitchen in unhygienic condition, while Shivani restaurant in Dilsukhnagar was imposed with a fine of `10,000 for storing stale food.
Green Bawarchi, Dilsukhnagar, was imposed with a fine of `5,000 for maintaining the kitchen in unsanitary conditions, hotel Brindavan in Dilsukhnagar was imposed with a fine of `5,000 for preserving stale food, while Mohini's restaurant in Basheerbagh was imposed with a fine of `10,000 for preserving cooked food in a refrigerator.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has inspected 289 eateries since April
3 and 171were imposed penalties for not following the norms an eatery should follow.The total fine imposed on these hotels is `1,407,100. The civic body has appealed the hoteliers time and again to use meat only from notified slaughter houses and maintain the hotel in hygienic conditions.The inspections were carried out by assigned zonal commissioners along with the food inspectors and veterinary doctors.Officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) also accompanied the civic officials in some of the inspections.
“The decision to inspect eateries was taken at the city convergence meeting when the water board officials said that the eateries were letting sewage water flow through their cellar and the water was entering into the food ingredients stored at that place“, said Ravi Kiran, additional commissioner (health and sanitation), GHMC.
