Special teams of the GHMC and the Fire Services Department will conduct inspections to know details of commercial establishments and godowns that are vulnerable for fire.
The teams, which will carry out inspections in the GHMC limits, will also ensure that owners adhere to safety norms and check whether commercial establishments and godowns have fire No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said here after a meeting with GHMC and Police officials.
The meeting reviewed the situation after the Bhoiguda fire mishap.
The Home Minister said
owners should provide a separate place for workers instead of a room at the commercial establishment or godown. Workers should not be allowed to cook food or indulge in smoking on the same premises.
“We are also exploring a proposal to shift hazardous commercial establishments from residential areas to the city outskirts for the safety of the public,” he said.
While efforts were on to prepare a long-term plan to contain fire accidents, it has been decided to enforce some immediate measures to minimize incidents and save precious lives, he said.
