GHMC intensifies demolition drive

The GHMC authorities have intensified demolition of illegal houses constructed along the nalas and tanks after grabbing lands in the city. The GHMC has set up special demolition squads in each circle to take up demolition of illegal structures.
Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said a letter has been written to district Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy to handover vacant houses constructed under JNNURM and Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) schemes to allot to the BPL people whose houses were demolished along the nalas. It was decided to allot these houses as it will take time to construct double bed rooms as announced, he said.
The GHMC Commissioner said there was need to strengthen GHMC town planning wing as thousands of illegal



structures have to be demolished. There are only 214 employees in the wing as against 1215 employees. Steps are being taken to fill these vacant posts in the wing through TSPSC, he said, adding that urban town planning director was requested to depute 40 building inspectors immediately to GHMC on deputation, the Commissioner said.
The Commissioner said there was a loss of about Rs 100 crore worth roads which were damaged due to heavy rains recently. According to report 180 km long roads have been damaged, he said adding that the state government was urged to allot funds for taking up repair works. Repair works would be soon taken up as soon as the situation returned to normal, Janardhan Reddy said adding that daily 150 pohthos are being filled up.
