The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched its monsoon action plan on Wednesday and said 300 works at a cost of `27.84 crore will be taken up.
A total of 234 water logging points have been identified by the civic body out of which 74 are major water logging points, while 27 of them need immediate attention. Out of these 27 points, the work for 10 points has been completed and four of them are under progress.
“The GHMC engineers have conducted joint inspection along with the traffic police to identify the spots across the city and are aiming to complete all the works before the city receives monsoons,“ said Shanker M deputy chief engineer (maintenance , housing and administration) department of GHMC.
The civic body has proposed 48 teams only to fix the potholes in the city during monsoons and provided them machinery and vehicles. “Apart from the 48 teams we have
also allocated 121 teams who will work 247 during the monsoons,“ said a GHMC official, “Tree cutters, machinery to pump out water and vehicles have been allocated to them,“ he added.
The civic body also allocated 19 emergency teams who will clear tree bran ches which fall on the ground after rains, and equipped them with vehicles which can pump out water. “Apart from clearing the tree branches these teams will also check the hanging branches which can be a potential threat to residents and commuters and will take appropriate action,“ said a GHMC official.
The GHMC has divided the water stagnation lanes into three categories, being critical water logging points where the water stagnation is severe, major water logging points where the water stagnation is not severe but it is high and minor water logging points where the water stagnation is less compared to the major points.
