GHMC launches tenders for 180 loo-cafes

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday announced the launch of tenders for setting up 180 loo-cafes in its limits, following the increasing utility value being provided by one located opposite Shilaparamam, Madhapur.

The tender process has been finalised by the Administrative Staff College of India. Those running toilets on main roads, railway/bus stations, airport, market malls are to be given preference in the allotment of tenders.  Those who bag the tender will have to pay the annual fee and advertisements fee as specified in GHMC policy.

The GHMC has decided to establish 180 loo-cafes. They include 36 in Khairatabad zone, 22 in Kukatpally and 30 each in Charminar, Serilingampally, Secunderabad and LB Nagar zones. This follows the orders issued by Municipal Administration Minister K Tarakarama Rao calling for



setting up of more toilets in the city, after the use of Loo-cafes in Indore. These loos have been visited by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy.

The Loo-cafes, like those in Indore, are to be run on BOT basis, without causing any financial burden to GHMC. It will provide 25x15 sq yd for the purpose, with water supply and sewerage connections. The cafes will have AC, napkin-vending machines, napkin incinerators, kids diaper changing rooms, café, wi-fi facility, water/bank ATMs. 

Women and differently-abled persons can use these cafes free of cost. Others have to pay Rs.20 for use of toilets and those who pay below Rs.20 will have to remit Rs 5 for using toilets. A GHMC press release stated on Wednesday that it was thinking of providing free of charge facilities in the cafes.
