GHMC offices to be 'Single use plastic free' zones from today

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy directed all the Zonal and Circle offices to be declared as ‘Single use plastic free’ zones from Tuesday.

On the eve of ‘International Plastic Free Day’ falling on Tuesday, July 3, the Commissioner instructed officials not to use single use plastic water bottles, tea cups, plastic straws and other items in the GHMC offices. He further



instructed the officials to fix ‘Single use plastic ban’ stickers at different places in the GHMC offices.

The municipal corporation is conducting different awareness programmes involving school children on the adverse impact of single use plastic items on the environment. Reddy said special focus will be laid on markets and Rythu Bazars in the city to create awareness among citizens.
