By August 15, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has planned to provide 3,000 new public toilets in different areas across the city. Works to this effect are being taken up on a war-footing basis.
This is after Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao directing the municipal corporation to construct 3,000 public toilets in different areas for the convenience of citizens.
GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar said as per the instructions of the Minister, efforts are on to construct 500 public toilets in each zone by August 15. Already, feasible places were identified for construction of 500 public toilets
in LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Charminar, Serilingampally, Khairthabad zones. Similarly, 229 places were identified in Secunderabad Zone and the remaining 271 places will be identified at earliest, said the Commissioner.
Till date, 2,729 locations were identified for construction of public toilets. Of these, construction of 140 public toilets has been completed and works are under progress at 237 locations.
Zonal Commissioners were instructed to monitor the progress and ensure completion of 500 public toilets in their respective zones by August 15, Lokesh Kumar said in a press release.
