The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is contemplating to temporarily pull down the city hoardings, as India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted gales with a speed reaching up to 120 to 150 km per hour during April-May and November-December annually.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that the civic body would soon hold a meeting with the departments, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister to finalise the decision.
The GHMC Commissioner said that though the hoardings were erected in accordance with the specifications prescribed by the structural engineers, the
civic body would pull down all city hoardings to minimise life and property loss.
He said several bill boards and flexies were damaged recently due to gales with a speed reaching up to 150 kmph. This has been happening only during the months of April-May and November-December, prior and post monsoon.
The GHMC commissioner said that this move will help the civic body recognise the unauthorised hoardings. He said that the ground level staff will present during pulling down the hoardings and they will verify them with data present with the corporation.
