GHMC razes 1,742 illegal structures

GHMC’s directorate of enforcement vigilance & disaster management officials on Monday pulled down 1,742 illegal structures. So far, they have razed 4,669 encroachments in the past three days, 550 were voluntary removals.

Initially 4,133 encroachments were identified, but while razing the encroachments more than the identified structures were pulled down. Six teams consisting of 20 officials were pulling down illegal structures on footpaths to facilitate right to walk. “The drive will continue,” said Viswajit Kampati, director of enforcement vigilance & disaster management, GHMC.

“We will continue the drive once a week. We will launch a crackdown against all irregularities reported to us by GHMC officials,” the IPS officer said.On Monday, the first team razed encroachments on Khairatabad-Panjagutta stretch, Panjagutta-Erragadda via Ameerpet, Maitrivanam and Lal Bungalow.

The second team covered Chaitanyapuri-Ashtalaxmi temple arch Ramakrishnapuram (Kothapet) and pulled down the illegal



structures.

The third team razed the encroachments on the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Forum mall (both ways), Nizampet-High Tension Line Road, JNTU-BJP Office stretches in KPHB Phase 2, Kukatpally.

On the other hand, the fourth team carried out the drive between Sangeet Junction and Secunderabad Railway Station, while the fifth team pulled down illegal structures between Kachiguda Tourist Hotel and Hindu Mahavidyala via Fever Hospital.

The sixth team removed encroachments on the Hafeezpet-Kothaguda Crossroad stretch. The drive was carried out in several areas of the city expect the Old City. According to officials, the areas were selected based on a draw of lots. “The areas were selected in lottery system, we are taking up encroachments phase wise and we will also take up the drive in the Old City,” said Viswajit Kampati.

Meanwhile, mayor Bonthu Rammohan thanked citizens and public representatives for their cooperation in making the drive successful.
