The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished five dilapidated buildings on Wednesday .
Two dilapidated independent houses in Secunderabad and structurally-weak buildings in Ramanathapur, Mallepally and Asif Nagar were demolished by the civic authorities. An unauthorised floor of a building was also demolished at Red Hills. “Till date, 180 dilapidated structures have been demolished and 15 old buildings have been vacated,“ said a top official from town planning department of GHMC.
The GHMC had demolished five buildings right after the heavy downpour on Monday . These included two weak structures in Kapra and an old building in Malkagiri. In the Old City , a building in Lal not ready to leave. Despite getting notices, many people deny this and approach court,“ said a
GHMC official.The civic body has also Darwaza and a balcony in Ziaguda were pulled down. A wall of a public washroom in Secundrabad was also razed.
GHMC officials said they have been facing trouble getting people to vacate the premises of dilapidated structures. “Even after educating people about the danger of dilapidated structures, they are served notices to three commercial complexes in Secunderabad which are structurally unfit. All these complexes are in General Bazaar in Secunderabad. Most of the shops in these complexes are small jewellery stores, goldsmith shops, electronic and textile stores. “We have served caution notices to three buildings in Secunderabad, all these buildings are old and dilapidated,“ said Rajender Kumar assiant city planner, Secunderabad.
