As part of its Monsoon Action Plan, the municipal corporation intensified the demolitions of dilapidated structures. Under a special drive, an action plan was prepared to identify most dangerous structures in each circle of the GHMC.
After having identified nearly 285 old and dilapidated buildings across the city this year, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday demolished 11 such structures, besides seizing one.
The drive will continue till all the identified structures are demolished or repaired by occupants. Notices are being served to the structure owners
accordingly. In few cases, where the occupants are reluctant to vacate the structures, officials are also counselling them to clear the buildings as a precautionary measure. More importantly, barricading is done around the buildings in case of severe damage to the structure, cautioning public to not to move around the structure, officials claimed.
In GHMC area, 765 buildings have been identified. The municipal corporation identifies dilapidated structures, obtains opinion on structural safety from Engineering Department, and takes up demolition of most dangerous structures.
