Implementing the guidelines prescribed in the Telangana State Building Permission Approval and self-Certification(TS-bPASS) Act, the Town Planning Wing of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been re-organised.
The civic body in a press release said that the reorganisation was done to ensure more transparency in granting building permits and simultaneously crack the whip on illegal constructions and to suit theTS-bPASS implementation.
The Town Planning wing is responsible for granting building permissions and ensuring illegal constructions do not come up in the city. This wing now has five exclusive cells in addition to the Special Task Force (STF) for each zone and has Planning & Policy, Land Acquisition, Special Projects, Urban Information Systems and Building/Layout Permission as exclusive cells.
The GHMC said the Planning & Policy cell takes care of the preparation of detailed planning schemes, local area planning, building rules etc apart
from being responsible for identifying critical issues in localities and suggesting measures to address them. Meanwhile, the land acquisition cell will acquire the properties for developing link roads, widening the existing roads and nalas.
With the government prioritising conservation of heritage and water bodies, the Town Planning Wing also formed a Special Projects cell to take care of heritage, lake development and implement land pooling schemes. Recently, a separate cell at GHMC Head Office was formed to conserve city’s heritage. The other newly formed cell is the Urban Information System cell to execute Digital Door Numbering project and to prepare an updated GIS base map ofthe properties. Also an exclusive cell resolves issues related to TS-bypass building/layout permissions.
To crack the whip on illegal constructions in the city, the GHMC has a special task force at the zonal level with engineers and officials from revenue and police.
