GHMC readies ponds for Ganesh immersion

GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan appealed to the citizens to utilise the facilities including 10 newly developed ponds at the lakes in different parts of the city for immersion of Lord Ganesha idols.

Inaugurating the MalkamChervu immersion pond at Raidurgam here on Wednesday, Rammohan said the main concept behind construction of 10 ponds at different lakes on pilot basis is to control water pollution and the environment in lakes and also to avoid congestion at one point for pollution free. This concept has already been taken up by the Bangalore and other cities keeping in view



of the importance and deriving good results this innovative concept has been taken up in GHMC for the convenience of the citizens, he added.

The Mayor said the GHMC has sanctioned Rs 6.5 crore for the 10 ponds which can be utilised during Bathukamma festival also. Based on the successes, the GHMC is planning to increase the numbers by constructing another 30 to 40 ponds by next year. Further, the government of Telangana is very serious in controlling pollution & environment and has proposed to construct such type of ponds in other districts also, he added.
