To promote better
Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Greater Hyderabad limits, the Greater Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL).
Under this project, Godrej will fund atleast 10 Swachh Centres for better dry waste management in Phase-I along with GHMC. Also it will fund processing plants (such as Refuse-derived fuel plants, waste plastic recycling plants etc) for wet waste and dry waste generated from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Swachh centers to some extent. Godrej has also pledged to sign an MoU with RWAs. The company will also put in place a mechanism to monitor the operations of Swachh centres by employing management personnel for a minimum two-year-period through operators.

space for 10 Swachh centers and around 10,000 sq.ft for Refuse-derived fuel
(RDF) plant of 20 Tons per day (TPD). Also around 40 TPD Wet waste which comes
with 50 percent moisture at transfer station along with electrical and water
supply connections. Godrej will appoint an NGO, social enterprises to develop
the land, construct industrial sheds suitable to operate the project.
The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) will facilitate training and capacity building, identification of Swachh sites, recognising sites for processing facilities, design & construction of Swachh centers in consultation with GHMC, Godrej and NGOs.Godrej will also part fund the technologies for scientific and environment-friendly disposal of waste. Profits from the project will invested in GHMC.
